How to prepare for the end of the world. Don't sit waiting for the end of the world, but live according to your conscience

Superstitious people are worried about the approaching December 21st and the hypothetical end of the world. What do Christians think about this panic? The question about the date of the end of the world is answered by priests - Archpriest Alexander Ilyashenko, Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, Priest Alexy Pluzhnikov and Archpriest Boris Levshenko.

Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh

They talked about the last times from century to century, and there were such times - perhaps more terrible than now - when entire crowds of people died out from infectious diseases, from murders. But we must remember one thing - Christ said in the Gospel that no one knows when the end will come.

We must always be ready, but not sit in fear of what is about to happen, but live life to the fullest.

When these last times come, we do not know under what conditions, but we know that there will be people who are able to meet them, who can stand face to face with the Antichrist and not give up.

We don't know when this will be.

But our Christian role is to grow to such an extent that when the last times come, we will be a stronghold of faith, love, God and humanity. I can’t say more clearly, but it seems to me that there is no point in being afraid. Generation after generation waited for the end, but the end did not come. And now terrible things are happening in different places, but this is not the end.

I believe this is not the end yet.

Archpriest Alexander Ilyashenko, rector of the Church of the All-Merciful Savior b. Skorbyashchensky Monastery:

“No one knows about that day and hour”

- Ideally, one should live, remembering that every day can be the last, because the life of every person can end suddenly. A Christian must be ready for this, make sure that his heart is pure from passions, not offend anyone or be offended by anyone, try to live according to the will of God, then he will be ready for the end of his life.

As for the question of the timing of the Second Coming and what follows, this is clearly stated in the Gospel: “But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but only My Father alone” (Matthew, 24, 36) . That is, sooner or later the end of the world will undoubtedly come. It seems that humanity is making every effort to hasten this moment, but it is not in the power of people to know the times and timing.

You can come up with anything you want, but just as no one knows when the end of his own life will come, so, even more so, we don’t know when the end of the world will come. Some people will not live to see it, some, perhaps, will live to see it, but the salvation of the soul does not depend on this. Therefore, there is no need to panic, but to walk through life calmly and spiritually, to fulfill God’s commandments, seeing your sins and hoping for God’s mercy.

Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, cleric of the Church of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Heir”, father of nine children:

Prepare for the end of the world, and this wheat

- Also, as can be seen from his early messages, he was sure that the end of the world would come during his lifetime. And later, many church writers in different eras were characterized by a heightened expectation of the Second Coming of Christ. Sometimes entire nations prepared for it, thinking that it was already “near, at the door.” For example, Rus' in the 15th century.

But Christianity is already 2000 years old, and there has still been no Second Coming. For some, this makes them confident that they can relax, the end of the world will not happen in their lifetime. This is not a completely correct perception for a Christian. Let me remind you what the Lord Himself says about this: “But as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man: for as in the days before the flood they ate and drank, married and were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they did not think until the flood came and destroyed everyone, so will the coming of the Son of Man" (Matthew 24:37-39).

That is, a Christian must always be ready for the Second Coming, but, as they used to say in Rus', prepare for the end of the world, but this wheat. It is unacceptable to succumb to panic and mass psychosis.

The Orthodox tend to expect the end of the world not in the version of the Mayan calendar or a giant meteorite, but in the version of three sixes, chips, barcodes. And people go into caves or acquire land in remote places, where, in their opinion, the Antichrist, if he gets there, will not be soon. “They are saved” from a world that lies in evil. This is the other extreme - the opposite of indifference.

Over its two-thousand-year history, the Church has developed a sober attitude towards the end of the world. For everyone who lived and died during these two thousand years, what was more important was not the general end of the world, but the end of their own lives, which will certainly come in our lifetime. Every person's life ends in death - this is inevitable.

Either you will wait until the end of the world, or you will die earlier and it is unclear when and how: in old age, surrounded by grandchildren, or today a brick will fall on your head or you will be hit by a drunk driver at a bus stop. It is more important to remind yourself not about the global end of the world, but the end of your own life, which can come at any moment. We must always try to be prepared for it.

Priest Alexy Pluzhnikov, rector of the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the city of Volgograd:

Don't be discouraged and the end of the world will pass you by!

A couple of weeks ago, my fourth-grader daughter came home angry, seething, indignant:

– Why are people so superstitious?! A classmate tells how they are preparing at home for the “end of the world”: they have already bought candles, they are going to buy stewed meat to wait out the end of the world! Well, how can I explain to them that this is all nonsense?!..

And really, how? How to talk to people who believe in the “end of the world” on December 21st and at the same time are preparing for the New Year? How can I explain something to those who believe in TV more than their own reason, who do not want to ask themselves a simple question: where is the logic, where is common sense?.. As the sage said: “When a person stops believing in God, he begins to believe in everything else” (G.K. Chesterton). Previously, this phenomenon was called “superstition”, and now it is called “talk show”...

But let’s try to give a couple of simple tips (in case anyone hears) on how to prepare for the end of the world.

For example, today I went to the hospital and gave communion to a three-year-old boy who has a brain tumor. You can meet his mother: she knows what “the end of the world” means to her, she is close to him like no one else... Or look into the children’s intensive care unit: this is how the end of the world walks through the wards, reaping its harvest...

This way you can get acquainted with the end of the world in a local version. You can find out that in such a situation - at the bedside of their dying child - people know how to pray as they have never prayed in their lives and, perhaps, never will be able to.

How can you prepare yourself to meet the end of the world: the universal one, during the Second Coming of Christ, or your personal one, which always stands behind you? You can go and donate blood for dying children. This will be good preparation. Or give your old but warm coat to a homeless person on a frosty December street. For the most part, we do not know how to pray, repent, or “bear the fruits of repentance,” as they write in pious brochures. But we can do a small good deed that may save someone’s life. And this is very valuable in the eyes of God: “Just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me” (Matt. 25:40).

And if those close to you, out of naivety and gullibility, are still afraid of the end of the world on December 21, then you tell them something comforting, with humor and hope, like the glorious announcement that I saw today on the doors of one store: “If December 21 is the end of the world - we will give you your money back!”

Don't be discouraged, and the end of the world will pass you by.

Archpriest Boris Levshenko, cleric of the Church of St. Nicholas in Kuznetskaya Sloboda, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, professor of the Department of Patrolology and Systematic Theology of PSTGU:

Don't sit waiting for the end of the world, but live according to your conscience

— Expecting the end of the world in the coming days contradicts Orthodox eschatology, according to which several events must happen before the end of the world. First, the Gospel will be preached throughout the world, and each person will decide whether he is with Christ or against Christ.

Secondly, the Antichrist will come, which people will really like, but it is with him that everything will begin, because he will exalt himself, begin to reign over everyone and organize persecution of all religions, and especially Christianity. It is not for nothing that he is called the Antichrist - instead of Christ. These persecutions will last three and a half years, and to help people survive, the prophets Enoch and Elijah will be sent into the world.

Since none of this has happened yet, we can definitely say that the end of the world cannot happen either on December 21 or in the near future. But sooner or later it will come, and it doesn’t matter during a person’s earthly life. The soul is immortal, so everyone will answer at the Last Judgment. So we must remember about the Last Judgment, be ready to give an answer to God at any moment. Do not sit waiting for the end of the world, but live according to your conscience, try to fulfill the will of God, and not break the commandments. And don’t be lazy—none of us notices this sin.

I think that none of the Orthodox people expects the end of the world on December 21, but many, for example, believe that if the Holy Fire does not descend in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, humanity will not live to see next Easter.

This version has nothing to do with the teachings of the Church. It is better to trust the Holy Scriptures and church tradition rather than idle reasoning.

December 20th marked the end of the 13th Baktun (period) of the Mayan calendar, giving rise to many speculations about the end of the world. Concerns in this regard have surfaced many times in human history, and therefore in the 21st century, assumptions about the possible destruction of the planet or human civilization will not surprise anyone. Many people have made a lot of money today. The descendants of the Mayans, apparently, did not understand it as the end of the world, as some scientists suggested, but simply the end of an era. Many people around the world, however, are busy preparing to survive a possible disaster. But they are more concerned about real threats, such as nuclear war, natural disaster, famine, economic collapse and others.

The end of the world is a long-established concept about the possible death of all people in the Universe. At the same time, in reality, only the possible threat of its occurrence can be called the end of the world. There are many options for how the life of humanity and all life in the Universe will be terminated or destroyed. Therefore, everyone is interested in how to prepare for the end of the world in order to survive this terrible event, and, in principle, whether it is possible to survive this moment.

Of course, if there are omens that the end of life will come for the whole world, i.e. of all living things, then humanity begins to worry that something terrible will happen. Fear of the end of the world is an understandable phenomenon; in fact, it means that every person on the planet, every animal and every plant will be destroyed and the likelihood that anyone will survive is zero.

So every person who believes in the coming of the end of the world awaits this event with fear and hopes not to live to see this terrible day. In addition, many claim that before the end of the world, the world will face a lot of cataclysms. Already by this moment, many people will die from the “harbingers of the end of the world.” Everyone has their own global and personal reasons to fear the end of the world, and each of these reasons can be understood.

Should we prepare for the end of the world?

Every inhabitant of the planet who believes in the death of all living things wants to know how to properly prepare for the end of the world. But here’s the question we all face: is it worth preparing for the end of the world in principle? Indeed, will at least one person in the universe be able to survive this incredible cataclysm?

On the one hand, we can explain the possibility of the end of the world: life arose so suddenly on the planet that it could just as suddenly disappear for unknown reasons. Of course, everyone can fight for their lives and the lives of their loved ones. You can't be sure that everything will work out for you and you'll stay alive, but it's worth trying. Of course, first of all, it is important to read competent literature, study scientific materials about the end of the world, discard far-fetched and completely incredible speculations and prepare the entire scientific base on this issue. It’s not for nothing that they say: “Forewarned is forearmed,” so if you are warned about the end of the world (it already is), you just have to be prepared and think about saving your life.

On the other hand, whether you will be able to stay alive after the end of the world, if this really happens, is still a question and quite dubious. The end of the world is called “The End”, which means in 99.9% every person on the planet, and all living things will die from the apocalypse.

How to expect the end of the world and with whom.

However, preparing for the apocalypse should not be confused with waiting for the end of the world all your life. If your work involves studying the possibility of the end of the world, then you will probably devote your entire life to waiting for this day to arrive in order to understand whether it is realistic to survive in these conditions, what exactly will be in store for our universe.

If you are a simple believer who believes that the end of the world is possible, just as the global flood once occurred, i.e. If the sun and all the planets go out, chaos, darkness and cold will come on our planet, then you still shouldn’t wait for this day, waking up with fear every morning. This will not be changed if this happens, and it is not worth wasting your life, which can be spent with benefit for yourself, your loved ones and the whole world.

Believers in the end of the world must be aware of themselves and their actions. So some people, before the end of the world, which they expected in 2012, went to live in dugouts, locked themselves there and died, but not from the end of the world, but from their own stupidity. You cannot trust those who make money from you by promoting the end of the world and the fact that it will be possible to survive only in dugouts or bunkers. Spend your days, even if they are your last, surrounded by people close to you. Even if you don't die from the end of the world, the days of every person on the planet are numbered, and no one knows when the countdown will end. Love yourself, love your loved ones, and be kind and positive, only then can you really be aware of the situation around you.

The end of the world: the brightest options.

Let's not remember those versions of the end of the world that have already passed, because... they are not valid. So, here are the versions of the end of the world that await humanity in the future:

Will it be possible to stay alive after the end of the world?

The most interesting question is whether it is possible to survive after the end of the world. Unfortunately, no one knows this. However, if we look at the situation from the perspective that we have all already experienced a lot of “ends of the world” (for example, the end of the world in 2000 and 2012), then, of course, it is possible to survive after the end of the world. Those. someone will set dates for the next “end of the world”, everyone will survive it, with the exception of those who died by natural causes or as a result of accidents from attacks or due to their own stupidity. In other cases, everyone has survived regular past “ends of the world” and remained alive, healthy and happy.

If we consider the real end of the world, no one yet knows whether it will be possible to survive the end of the world. All this can only be known when humanity actually faces the end of the world. Purely theoretically, this situation can also be considered. If the end of the world is coming and foreshadowed, then most likely none of the people will survive. Although if you know in advance that the end of the world will come, and know for sure how it will happen, you can prepare. In this case, you will be able to collect information about a method of survival after a specific cataclysm, you will be able to thoroughly prepare a base for yourself, as they say, “lay out straws.”

How to survive any end of the world.

To survive the end of the world, you need to understand what exactly will be its end. Although many people wonder why it is necessary to die after the end of the world from hopelessness, hunger or illness, from the inability to survive without the conveniences of civilization? Well, let’s not talk about sad things, let’s better find out how we can survive after one or another end of the world.

If the end of the world is caused by the Apocalypse, then only strong-willed Christians will be able to survive, and those who adhere to a different faith will perish. It is clear that you can survive in this version if you become a believer and an exemplary Christian.

If the end of the world is caused by the Doomsday Machine, it is difficult to say who will survive. If it is just one powerful bomb, then a lot of people will die, but not many or even the majority of the world's population. However, if this is a whole system of bombs designed for the mass destruction of people, then only a few will survive. A bunker and knowledge of when a nuclear “war” will start can save you from this.

If the cause of the end of the world is a magnetic field reversal, then only part of the population will die anyway. It is important to know which part of the planet will be under threat and then you can move to a safer place for yourself, thereby surviving.

If the end of the world is caused by an asteroid hitting the Earth, then most likely the entire planet will die. If there remains a place that the asteroid will not harm, it will already be filled with all the “minds” and “wallets” of the planet.

If the cause of the end of the world is a change in planetary eras, then survival is simply not worth expecting. Even if you hide in a bunker, you will never be able to climb out to the surface of the Earth, because you will die from lack of oxygen and food.

If the end of the world is caused by the absorption of the Earth by the Sun, then no one will be able to survive. This is the most terrible version of the end of the world, although not considered by modern scientists. Humanity will simply burn out from the immense influence of the Sun.

According to Wikipedia, humanity has already experienced 173 ends of the world. Moreover, some of them fell on the same day with an interval of only a few hours. But despite the fact that no machine uprising or alien attack ever occurred, it is interesting to see what kind of total destruction people feared at different times.

website chose the 10 most original and even stupid ways of destroying humanity.

1806

In 1806, in the English city of Leeds, a chicken appeared that was laying unusual eggs with inscriptions promising the imminent end of the world. The owner of the chicken soon began to display the bird to the public, and in front of eyewitnesses it laid a new egg with a new ominous message.

The news spread so quickly that within a few days, hysteria about the imminent end of the world gripped almost all of England. However, when the timing of the predictions was considerably delayed, the hostess admitted that she herself wrote inscriptions on the eggs and then placed them back in the chicken. History is silent about what happened next to the hostess.

1910

In 1910, the entire population was gripped by real panic. The fact is that on May 18 of that year, the Earth’s orbit passed through the tail of Comet Halley, which immediately caused a stir. Rumors spread that the comet had poisoned the atmosphere with poisonous gases and humanity now had little time left.

In the USA at that time they even produced special tablets called “Comet”, which promised healing. Of course, the pills were fake, and the end of the world never happened. But the impressions remained.

1919

9 years later, people began to prepare for the end of the world in honor of the parade of planets. On December 17, 1919, the 6 planets of the solar system lined up in a row, and American meteorologist Albert Port immediately predicted that the Sun would explode and the Earth would suffer from the explosion. When no tragedy occurred, he came out and publicly apologized.

1936, 1943, 1972 and 1975

December 17, 1996

In 1996, American clairvoyant Sheldon Needle gathered hundreds of people in front of the TV and promised that on December 17, all earthlings would be incinerated by angels and aliens (yes, at the same time). Sheldon did not explain why this particular combination.

1998

This year, the Spiritual Creativity Movement group armed themselves with astronomy textbooks and convinced people that the star Alpha Centauri would explode in September-October. But it will not just explode, but will release a stream of deadly rays, one of which will hit the South Pole of the Earth and plunge the planet into darkness for 12 years (approximately).

Armageddon did not happen, the penguins at the pole were not harmed.

1999–2000

Millennium Armageddon was special because Nostradamus himself predicted it. Other predictors and even scientists also got involved. The program was big: nuclear war, an asteroid, a comet that would fall into the Atlantic Ocean, a supernova explosion and a large-scale solar eclipse.

  • One of the major Armageddons was due to be caused by computers. The fact is that the technology of that time, when the year 2000 arrived, perceived it as the year 1900. Tens of thousands of people were waiting for the uprising of machines, the explosion of all power plants and the fall of all planes.
  • On May 5, another parade of planets took place. According to tradition, everyone was waiting for a tsunami and complete destruction.
  • But on September 26, it was expected that the real-life asteroid Tautatis would crash into the Earth. Moreover, after 4 years, the asteroid approached the planet so close that even scientists sounded the alarm. But the Earth was lucky and the asteroid flew past.

2008

The official launch of the Large Hadron Collider created a lot of noise. At the time, people were concerned that the launch would create a black hole that would swallow the entire planet. Hundreds of people sent petitions and organized rallies asking for the “doomsday machine” to be destroyed. But on September 10, the collider was launched and nothing happened.

2011

People were frightened by another comet discovered by astronomer Leonid Elenin. There were many versions: from the most banal, that a comet would crash into the Earth and destroy all life, to those that alien spaceships were flying after it.

But at the end of August 2011, the comet's nucleus collapsed and it was lost from sight.

12/20/2012 - How do people prepare for the end of the world?

According to the Mayan calendar, the “end of the world” should come on December 21, 2012. And many are actively preparing for this event.

Thus, one man from China spent his personal savings ($288,000) to build a modern “Noah’s Ark” in case of the apocalypse and the subsequent flood. It took inventor Liu Qiyuan from Hebei province 8 months to build 6 arks with the help of workers from his former furniture factory. Work on the seventh is in full swing. The creator believes that they are able to withstand destructive tsunamis and earthquakes.

Another inventor, Ron Hubbard, built a luxurious underground bunker in Montebello, California. There are leather sofas, plasma TV and wooden floors. Just in case the predictions come true.

Underground bunker

A luxurious bunker, capable of withstanding, according to inventor Ron Hubbard, the use of nuclear and chemical weapons, is sold for only 74,550 thousand dollars (Photos 1-9).

Ron is trying to complete and install two bunkers in New York and Indiana on time. There are beds, a kitchen, a toilet and even fireplaces. A cylindrical bunker with a wooden floor and a plasma TV has the following dimensions: length - 4.65 m, diameter - 0.93 m. The inventor himself is going to spend three days underground in his bunker during the “end of the world”. Just in case.

Noah's Ark

We continue to prepare for the end of the world. In case of tsunami and floods, Chinese inventor Liu Qiyuan designed and built his own version of Noah's Ark. According to Liu, the idea of creating such an ark came to his mind after watching the famous Hollywood film “2012” (Photo 10-23).

The escape capsule has a steel frame and its body is made of fiberglass. Inside there is everything you need: oxygen cylinders, containers with food and large supplies of water.

According to the inventor, the ark can handle even a kilometer-long wave and can withstand great pressure. The capsule has 14 seats, but if desired, 30 can fit here.

A person can live in such an ark for 4 months in any weather conditions. There is a table and a bed, and the walls are covered from the inside with colorful wallpaper to lift the mood.
